KPR

About us

Kangaroo Point Rovers are one of the smallest inner most Brisbane CBD football clubs in the Football Brisbane system and play our home matches at Raymond Park which is situated in Kangaroo Point. The senior men's side play in Football Brisbane's Capital 2 League, which is complimented by a Men's City 3 and City 6 League sides, and a Women's City 3 side.

KPR is a club rich in history and is a reincarnation of the original Pineapple Rovers, one of the oldest clubs in Queensland, thought to have been formed in the late 1880s and playing out of Raymond Park (then known as the Pineapple Sports field, named for the adjacent Pineapple Hotel) until around 1940

The original Pineapple Rovers are thought to have formed around 1886 when the headquarters of the Anglo-Qld Football Association was the Pineapple Hotel. They became one of the most successful clubs in the league before and after World War 1, taking out a number of Division 1 Championships in the 1920’s. This success continued during the 1930's before the club disbanded after the second World War.

A chance meeting with a member of the 1928 winning side in today’s Pineapple Hotel led to the reformation of the Pineapple Rovers in 1996. The modern club’s first season was played under the guise of Inala City’s 8th Division side, not having the resources to join as a full member. The debut year was great on and off the field and we firmly embraced the challenge to once again become a force in Queensland football. Promoted to the 5th Division in 1997, we then moved to Eastern Suburbs Tigers ground at Heath Park. 1999 saw our first official season as the Pineapple Rovers, although in true Rovers fashion we continued to play out of Heath Park.

In 2003 we secured the Lease of Raymond Park - the spiritual home of the original Pineapple Rovers. In 2004 the Annual General Meeting saw a name change and club crest voted in, namely Kangaroo Point Rovers FC, with a view to creating a clearer identity in the local community and to mark the club’s focus on a new direction. Tradition was maintained with the Rovers moniker being retained; after all, considering our brief recent history it was more than fitting. After the renaming of the club, we began fielding a womens side in the city leagues (then named Metro league) to great success, winning more often than not, including recently back to back to back promotions in 2014, 2015, and now 2016. Along the way, the men also picked up silverware with several league and Grand Final titles having been won, in 2013 when the Capital 3 side won the double (league and grand final) with the Cap 3 reserves also winning the grand final, gaining automatic promotion into Capital 2 League. The City 6's have also enjoyed success with winning "the double" in 2014 with an unbeaten season.

2017 saw the good times return back to Raymond Park as our Capital 4 squad finished third overall with the top team gaining silverware after a 4 year wait beating Samford 2-0 in the Cap 4 Grand Final.

KPR has managed to develop a culture of success and team spirit on the field and create an enviable social scene off it. Our appeal to the wider community has created a diverse and multicultural club, with players from over 20 countries having represented the club over the years with this number still growing to this very day.

Recently our club has gone through some changes at all levels off the pitch as well, and notably received a level 1 NCAS accreditation through the FFA and Football Queensland as we look to improve the football club as a whole through our 5 year plan.

With the rebuilding phase well underway after back to back relegations, 2017 saw the return of success both on and off the pitch at KPR with numerous improvements made within the club which culminated in a 3rd place finish in the league, only to miss promotion and 2nd place by the way of goal difference. This didn't deter the squad as they made history winning the last ever Capital 4 Grand Final over Samford Rangers 2-0.

In January of 2018, with the league restructure of Football Brisbane's footballing pyramid underway, KPR saw themselves in the newly reformed Capital 3 league. This all suddenly changed when Pine Rivers decided to withdraw from the Capital League structure meaning an availability opened up for Cap 2 football in 2018. After careful consideration, the coaching staff and committee took on the chance of returning back to Cap 2 with open arms and returned to the league they once called home some 4 years ago.

A goal and ambition that was made in recent years coming to fruition, the exciting times would continue for KPR as we look to build on last season success and good fortune of the new campaign.

New challenges, and old rivalries will resume when the new 2018 season kicks off in late February with KPR looking to maintain their new Capital League 2 position.
