Kanata Chess Academy (KCA), a federally incorporated non-profit organization, is committed to enhancing students' cognitive, social, and decision-making skills through the game of chess. Our outreach extends to children in the Ottawa area, providing them with valuable chess opportunities.

This chess course is intended for beginners who are new to the game. The fundamentals & basics are introduced in a systematic way so that by the end of the beginner course the student would learn a sense of decision-making & calculation techniques.

The curriculum for beginners includes:

• Rules & Objectives

• Basic Piece Movement

• Chess Notation

• Introduction to Check, Checkmate, and Stalemate

• Attack & Defense Basics

• Simple Strategical Thinking

• Finding Checkmate and Much More

Theory/Practice Ratio: 50:50

Session: 1 hour

Recommended Hours/Week = minimum 2 hours

Total Sessions: 25

Payment: $20/hour

Age: 4 and up

Designed for students seeking to enhance their chess skills through strategic thinking and tactics, this course aims to prepare participants for competitive play and the pursuit of higher ratings. The curriculum covers a diverse range of tactics, focusing on improving piece positioning, planning effective attacks, and gaining control of crucial squares. As students progress through the course, they will not only refine their tactical skills but also cultivate increased patience and concentration—essential components for success in chess games and tournaments

The curriculum for intermediate includes:

• Key Openings

• Winning with Tactics – Powerful Winning Moves

• Calculating Moves Ahead 

• Activating Your Pieces

• How to Dominate the Game

• Checkmate Patterns and Endgame Techniques

Theory to Practice ratio: 40:60

Session: 1 hour
