Credentials

The library has the potential to bring together all parts of the school and create an essential community for all patrons.

Kaitlyn Carpenter is in her 10th year in education. She began her career as an English Teacher for five years before transitioning to being a School Librarian. In 2024, Her current library's digital marketing campaign won her the TLA Texas Branding Iron Award for Digital Communications in schools. In 2023, she and her current library, Bellaire High School library, won HISD's Library Program of the Year. This was awarded during her first year at Bellaire High School, while she worked diligently to re-open the library after a large renovation. During the first half of the school year, she worked on weeding the existing collection from the boxes stored for years, and circulated small curated carts of books three times a day to get books in kids hands.

She has been an advocate for school libraries in her district and in her school by revitalizing the physical space and perspective of what takes place in the library (the biggest classroom in the school!) She is currently serving as 2023 NMRT Councilor and the Houston Association of School Librarians President. She looks forward to further leadership opportunities in librarianship, instructional professional development, and library advocacy.
