Aloha Everyone! I'm Ms. Erin Sonsona, your new librarian

Sorry Everyone-- I've been removed from serving as your "nationally-certified" & "highly qualified" school librarian. Hence, I will not maintain or keep this library webpage up very long... Dang. I'll miss serving in "the role" that I prepared for so intensely these last decades. :-(...

Please ADVOCATE for libraries & librarians who must have dual degrees, in education & Masters in Library Science yet are paid the SAME as any HIDOE department head. Your evidence to advocate with? Cite this 2020 Hawaii State Literacy Plan that states “ENSURE schools have school libraries and school librarians.[pg. 59] This determination was made ”by 59 community, early childhood, K-12, and higher education institutions” which included our own Kaiser Complex Area Superintendent, Rochelle Mahoe. SADLY, this 2021-22 school year, there will only be ONE school librarian in the ENTIRE Kaiser Complex-- at Aina Haina Elementary School. Sadly, this IS the new statewide trend...

ALL children DESERVE a quality education, free from bias, all done with dignity, and with resources & people worthy of their valuable time.

I've ALWAYS been an optimist & a dreamer, and have HIGH hopes of making OUR library a place that is beckoning for ALL-- with your help! [See my vision here!] Besides creating this webpage, and gaining some updated materials, what do Y-O-U want to see in our shared space? [Please indicate on this survey.] Occasional lunchtime presentations or performances? 'Quiet' gaming area (think cards & board games) to meet (new) friends? Comfortable reading nooks? Please consider being part of the library team [CTE/work study] to help transform our space and offerings. I'm a firm believer in "transparency brings accountability" so let's do this together! Leave your suggestions here! Certain we'll have to bamboozle parents & community members for help so get ready to advocate!

Quarantined books?

Yep. When it comes to even library materials, our KHS library follows the REALM* recommendations in which scientists have determined the COVID 19 virus is undetectable on library materials after THREE days. You can read more about this study here. Our public libraries are following the same policy. So when we return and *if* the CV bug is still around know you're materials will automatically get benched, with a "time out"!

*REALM = REopening Archives, Libraries and Museums-- a research partnership between the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the research organization Battelle and OCLC, a global library organization.

Wow!

Spiderman & his color companion [-->>>] appeared on the CIRC desk one morning. While I could not make out the name of who left it (N_ _ _?), I'm impressed with all the extra effort! Hope to see some of the others done in your classrooms!

First one!

I bamboozled one of KHS's recent students (from Virginia!) to try reworking this author's words--while he was waiting for his new class schedule. "C" from Virginia did so in a very short time 'just for fun' & undoubtedly to appease his new librarian, ha!

Follow the line!

<<-- Color-coded with Mr. Spidey, this one again, shows a great effort! What a great way to REuse some aged pages headed to recycling, eh?!
