Writing has always been an activity of great importance to me, and from a young age I recognized the power of words.  My ancestors literally had an ʻōlelo noʻeau, or proverb, about it, saying "Aia ke ola i ka waha; aia ka make i ka waha" (Pukui #60), meaning essentially that spoken words had the potential to create and perpetuate life, and to destroy.  

I knew the power of both the written and spoken word, and thus started to use my voice in a variety of ways through Kahula Writes, to try and create positive change.
