Networks & The Internet

From the K-12 Computer Science Framework:

Computing devices typically do not operate in isolation. Networks connect computing devices to share information and resources and are an increasingly integral part of computing. Networks and communication systems provide greater connectivity in the computing world by providing fast, secure communication and facilitating innovation.

Grades K-2 (Ages 5-8)

No Standard

There is no K-2 standard for the Network Communication & Organization sub-concept.

The K-12 Computer Science Framework says that by the end of 2nd grade, students should know this: Computer networks can be used to connect people to other people, places, information, and ideas. The Internet enables people to connect with others worldwide through many different points of connection.

Based on the K-12 CS Framework, We Might Want Students to Know and Be Able To:

    1. Create a model of a network.

    2. Explain what we use the Internet for.

    3. Use the Internet to connect with other classes or with information. This could integrate with Impacts of Computing Standard 1A-IC-17: Work respectfully and responsibly with others online.
