Turn on the power to the PC (button on the top next to USB cable).
Assure the SAMLEXPower power supply is on, and delivering 13.8 @ ~ 1A.
Power on the Flex 6600 (button on the front which is green in the photo)
You may need to tap the return key twice to wake up the monitors.
To login, select user K4MIE and use the keyboard to enter the PIN (2354).
Use the Firefox browser and the K4MIE Icon to open our website and select the Procedures Tab.
Wait until the Flex power button is steady green.
Double click the SDR icon to open the Flex software.
Select the K4MIE Flex and Connect.
Do not select KG5VK! Only for scheduled demonstrations. Station is in Paris TX.
The Flex Waterfall should come up. on the right screen.
Switch the HF Antenna to the F6600.
Check that middle coax is connected
(antenna).
Learn the equipment connections shown on the K4MIE Antenna
Do not ever disconnect or change them, even for lightning storms.
Our Hexbeam only supports 20m to 6m operation. Do not use frequencies outside of this range.
At some point in the near future we will have a G5RV available for 80m - 30m.
Turn Tune power down to 3 watts. Use Tune button on, on upper right corner of the right hand monitor to check SWR. Turn Tune off.
Use ATU button off then on to force a tune of the antenna. You will hear relays clicking. After tuning, the SWR should be well below 1.5:1. Do not transmit above 1.5:1. ATU should be blue to signal success.
When making large changes in frequency within a band or changing bands it may be useful to force a tune.
Turn RF Power to 100 watts for phone modes and CW.
Use about 30 watts for most digital modes like FT8.
Select PCAudio button at upper right screen to turn on PC sound.
Set volume control on the external speaker.
Make sure the DAX settings match in each drop down box. Left side of the Waterfall screen and on tuning shuttle
Use Slice A and ANT1.
Important! Ant2 is not normally connected to anything. But may show up selected.
For Phone operations
For SSB:
Complete the procedure above.
2. Set NR and ANF on. Set RF power to max. Set Mic to the Flex hand mic. Set the Equalizer RX and TX to on. Set USB or LSB.
3. Try learning how to use the speech processor, and watch the envelope on the Heathkit oscilloscope.
3. Use the foot switch or VOX to trigger the transmitter.

For WSJT-X Modes:
Complete the procerdure above.
On the Flex equalizer panel, turn off RX and TX equalization (these are for phone)
Using the icon labeled wsjtx-FLEX, launch WSJT-X.
Set desired mode and frequency on WSJT-X.
Note the following: a) does the Flex tuning move to the desired frequency?
b) does the operating mode change to DIGU?
c) Are signals being decoded?
6) PC Audio may be muted if desired, this will not affect decoding.
7) Ready to operate!
