About the Author

This web site was developed by Joshua Koen as a course requirement in partial fulfillment for the Doctorate in Education in Educational Technology Leadership program at New Jersey City University.

Mr. Koen serves as the Executive Director for Educational Technology and Computer Science with the Newark Board of Education (NBoE) and has over 20 years of experience planning, leading, and supporting large scale education technology initiatives in schools and districts focused on increasing student achievement and engagement. In his current role, Mr. Koen oversees all instructional technology and computer science initiatives for the largest school district in the State of New Jersey (NJ).

Prior to returning to NBoE, Mr. Koen served as the Chief Innovation Officer with the NJ Department of Education (NJDOE) where he was responsible for developing and executing the state-wide vision for how to effectively use technology in the classroom, supporting innovations in the field and growing computer science throughout the state. In this capacity, he oversaw the Offices of School Innovation and Educational Technology, initiated the development of a state-wide Computer Science strategic plan, and authored the educational technology components of NJ’s ESSA plan (pp 95-96; .129-130).
