K-12 CS Teacher Professional Development Workshop
2024 Spring NSF Noyce K-12 CS Teacher Education Student Workshop
The workshop will be held on Feb 16, 2024 (Friday).
This workshop is intended to promote K-12 CS Teacher education at Kennesaw State University, to enhance students’ understanding in K-12 CS teaching career, and to grow CS teachers by disseminating free learning/teaching materials, funded partially by National Science Foundation. Application is free. Pizza will be provided. Selected students will receive a $50 gift card after completing the workshop, subject to budget. This workshop provides an excellent opportunity to study latest development on K-12 CS teacher education and to network with peers. Expected outcome of the workshop is to understand concrete case studies, and work on hands-on lab material, that will motivate students further study. The workshop will also focus on recruiting students to study in the K-12 CS teaching field.

Instructional Video Assignment:
You are asked to create a 10-minute instructional video to teaching a minor one CS concept, upload your video to YouTube or other platforms, and email the link to Dr. Lo. After that you will be considered as complete for the workshop.
Here are some suggestions. You may find a minor in K-12, if all possible, and find out how much CS concepts he or she know. You then identify a CS topic which is suitable for the minor, i.e., not too advanced and not something the minor already knows. A good place to looking for a topic is this project site. You then design your presentation materials in PowerPoint or other media for 10 minutes. You may use other methods to teach. For example, you draw on a whiteboard or you design a game for the minor to play, or whatever you think the minor will learn better. Remember that you have 10 minutes only. Therefore, you have to carefully arrange your timeline. If you decide to interact with the minor, please secure a consent from the minor’s parent or legal guardian before featuring them in your video. Make sure their participation in your video is voluntary.

2022 K–12 CS Teacher Professional Development Workshop at Kennesaw State University
The K–12 CS Teacher Professional Development Workshop at KSU is intended to promote K–12 teacher education, enhance student learning experience, and foster collaboration among CS teachers. Each selected participant will be paid $800 as a stipend, sponsored in part by National Science Foundation. Priority will be given to teachers who have not yet passed the GACE CS assessment and will teach a CS course new to their school in/after fall 2022, and who come from high needs school districts. The workshop will be synchronous online from July 1, 2022 to July 13, 2022 (3 hours a day for 4 days).

Expected outcome of the workshop is to study and provide concrete learning/teaching materials with hands-on lab exercise, and project/test questions that can be applied in teaching K–12 CS classes. The workshop will also focus on developing effective CS education pedagogy or learning materials that can lead to peer-reviewed publications in CS education conferences/journals.

2021 K–12 CS Teacher Professional Development Workshop at Kennesaw State University
The K–12 CS Teacher Professional Development Workshop at KSU is intended to promote K–12 teacher education, enhance student learning experience, and foster collaboration among CS teachers. Each selected participant will be paid $850 as a stipend and to reimburse travel expenses, sponsored in part by National Science Foundation. Priority will be given to teachers who have not yet passed the GACE CS assessment and will teach a CS course new to their school in/after fall 2021, and who come from high needs school districts. The workshop will be mostly virtually from July 5, 2021 to August 13, 2021, with an on campus meeting in the first and last weeks.
