Coaching in Sweden for 2 years. 4 indoors, 6 clay courts. Great system as they play 6 months on the indoor hardcourts and 6 months on the outdoor clay courts. It was interesting learning about how to change the speed of the courts and how weather conditions can effect the speed of the clay courts.
I hit the very 1st ball on the practice courts in 2005, thanks to Todd Woodbrige who got us on the courts early. After I hit the 1st ball, Wayne said get off Im hitting with Todd now. We trained with Todd woodbrige for 1 week leading up to the tournament. He gave me lot of great tips on playing doubles.
The grass court season was my favourite, We went to Queens, Wimbledon, Hertogenbosch, and Nottingham. Wayne and Paul beating Agassi and Roddick at Queens was one of the highlights.
Wayne winnig Scottsdale beat Mario Ancic in the final 7/5 6/3. 1st Set losing only 3 points on 1st serve. Playing in the desert helped Wayne's serve. It was very fast conditions. Not many people have every won an ATP tour event at the highest level without losing serve once in the tournament. He also made the doubles final with Paul Hanley.
1990s Jim Courier, Andre Agassi, Thomas Johansson all grand slam winners said Wayne had one of the best serves in the world. He often lead yearly ace count, break points saved, games held on serve. Wayne won 111 games in a row at wimbledon which is still a record and also went on a streak of 109 games in a row while winning Scottsdale. It was Andre Agassi who broke his streak both times. Arguably one of the greatest returners of all time. The fastest serve I saw him hit was 232 km/hr at Cincinnati. He hit the fastest serve at the Australian open one year 231 km/hr when retired playing in the seniors event.
Todd Woodbrige, Pat Rafter, LLeyton Hewitt, Wayne Arthurs, John Fitzgerald.
Wayne Played 19 Davis Cup Ties. Singles 10/4, Doubles : 8/6. In his 1st Match at 27 years old he defeated Yevgeny Kafelnikov who was number 1 in the world 6/2, 6/7 6/2, 6/0, and Marat Safin who was top 10 at the time 6/3 6/2.
Wayne played Daivs Cup and Olympics with Todd Woodbridge, he also played with Paul Hanley and Sandon Stolle. Wayne played Davis Cup from 1999-2006
Winning 2003, Qtrs : Arthurs/Woodbridge vs Bjorkman/Enqvist 6/4 6/2 6/2, Semis : Arthurs/Woodbridge vs Federer/Rosset 4/6 7/6 5/7, 6/4 6/4, Final : Arthurs/Woodbridge Corretja/Lopez 6/3 6/1 6/3.
Over Waynes Career he beat 7 world number 1's, Pete Sampras, Yvevgeny Kafelnikov, Marat Safin, Pat Rafter, Andy Roddick, Gustavo Keurten, and Stfan Edberg. He played Serve and volley off 1st serve and 2nd serve, one of the last players to play that style. He could do so as he had an amazing serve.
