School board members have a responsibility to the public. We are entrusted with making important decisions about the world's most valuable resource: our students. We also manage tax payer dollars. These two things are very important to everyone in our community. As such, I will make reasoned and careful decisions to promote student success and be fiscally responsible.
I also understand that I will not have all of the answers. Seeking out research to make data-informed decisions is important. However community members, staff, parents, and students have valuable insight to make the best decisions possible. I will welcome and seek out that feedback.
In order for stakeholders to offer great feedback, they must know about the decision-making and have access to information about the district's policies, programs, and budgets. By being transparent, actively communicating, and responding to feedback, I hope to continue to build trust with the community and promote the success of the district.
As elected officials, school board members have a responsibility to be open and transparent with the decisions we make. Much of this responsibility is outlined in the Open Meeting Act. This law describes how public bodies like the school board should communicate and conduct business in an open and public manner. Since I have attended many Prairie Hill board meetings, I understand the value in having information available before, during, and after the meeting concludes. This transparency is crucial to good local government. It is important to me to involve our community with the discussions and decisions the school board has.
It is at the core of my nature to reflect and continuously improve. While this certainly applies to my own life, I guarantee this attitude will come with me to the school board. Finding ways I can be a better board member will be a priority. In addition, I will examine ways the school can be improved and make decisions with careful thought. I will serve my term as board member with the utmost integrity and serve my community well.
