Project Description:
After reviewing this week's materials, including current social media stats, research about social media's impact, and taking a personal social media addiction quiz, we were to reflect on how social media impacts society.
Social Media Addiction Survey:
After taking the "Am I ADDICTED to social media?" QUIZ my results stated that...
I am FAIRLY RELIANT on social media.
Interesting Social Media Statistic:
People are more likely to visit Facebook and Snapchat multiple times a day rather than other social media sites and I would agree with this and even say these are the two I check the most. The only reason I check Facebook multiple times a day is because they send an absurd amount of notifications and there is always something to look at. I check Snapchat multiple times a day because I am expected to snap people back.
Social Media's Impact on Society
I think that social media can be a good way to connect to and stay updated with the lives of our friends and families. I think that people can be cruel and can say very mean things while hiding behind a screen which can hurt people who have low self esteem. Photo editing apps have created a false idea of what people truly look like and may upset some people about what their own body looks like. I think that youtube and tik tok should have age restrictions on videos because there are certain things an 8 year old should not see. I believe that meeting people online and considering them "friends" is kind of weird and can be dangerous. People can definitely be addicted to social media, I would say that I am not one of these people and I would say that out of every single person I know between the ages of 16 and 45, I am on my phone the least.
Lessons Learned
I learned many interesting statistics about social media and I found the differences amongst different demographics rather intriguing.
