We are the friends and family of Kristen Smith. We are a non-profit organization seeking justice and answers in her case.
Upon the sudden death of my best friend, we received very little information. She was found deceased the morning of June 2, 2021 just a few months before her 34th birthday. It has been called a suicide. Everyone that knows her and the situation believes there is more to it than that. We just want the truth.
Kristen was a daughter, a mother, a sister, a best friend and so many other things to so many people. We have been trying to get to the truth about what happened to her. We want the justice system to do it's job. A year and a half later we have no answers, just more questions.
We have organized protests, created a Facebook page and group and we've contacted everyone from the initial detective up to the special prosecutor for the case updates with no response. We've contacted every local news outlet and none of them will run the story, due to the location of where she was found.
We are in talks with a couple other local groups looking for answers in regard to their missing loved ones to try to schedule a joint protest for the missing or deceased women in Eastern Kentucky this coming June. We are also planning fundraising options aside from donations.
We can't get there without help. Anyone that can afford to donate please do even if it's a dollar. We are looking to fund billboards and potentially a Private Investigator to help us push harder for the truth. The QR code above is a link to donate directly to the cause. Thank you in advance for any help. We appreciate it!
Kristen Smith May was a devoted mother trying to better herself in college. She was a very hard worker and an amazing friend. During the last year of her life she experienced domestic violence, which she filed charges against her boyfriend, Sam at the time. She visited the hospital for treatment for her injuries and according to her medical records, she reported the abuse to the hospital personnel. Towards the end, she filed for a protection order with the courthouse. According to friends and family, Kristen informed them that Sam held her possessions hostage and threatened her family and friends until she felt she had to drop the protective order and charges. According to close friends that Kristen was in contact with on June 1, 2021, Kristen told Sam she was leaving and started packing her things. She had her mother come that night to pick her son up while she packed their things. Then suddenly, on June 2, 2021 it was reported Sam found her in his home hung in the basement closet. Since her death, her mother/executive of her estate, had to file for a court order to retrieve her things from Sam's home. Sam refused to release her things and was subsequently arrested for felony theft, according to Court documentation. Sam has yet to face a grand jury for his crime. We believe he has not been held accountable because of his political position in Floyd County, Kentucky and connections. Kristen's family deserves justice and closure. Please help us by donating what you can in hopes that we can hire private investigators and put-up billboards. The political corruption in Floyd County needs to stop. Too many women are going missing and/or end up dead there and nobody seems to be taking it seriously. We are being ignored by prosecutors, police and the media. It's time to take a stand against corruption and domestic violence.
