Biography

Professor Ahn’s main research area is the anthropology of childhood and socialization, with particular focus on the development of self, emotion, and sociality in cultural context. Over the last fifteen years, she has worked on socialization and peer culture in the U.S. and South Korea. Through cross-cultural studies of human development, her research delves into the interactions of culture and human psychology as well as the cultural groundings of human sociality. Her other research interests include interactions between culture and psychology, anthropology of education, language socialization, and culture, consumption, and advertising. Works based on her research have been published in several internationally renowned journals including American Ethnologist, Ethos, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, Childhood, Children and Society, and Linguistics and Education.
