From Nebraska to South Dakota
Adrianna Sims is from Malcolm, NE and attended Malcolm Public Schools. She attended Concordia University Nebraska and earned her bachelor's degree in middle level education. She taught for one semester at Immanuel Lutheran School in Columbus, NE. She is currently attending graduate school at Mount Marty University and studying to earn her master's degree in coaching leadership.
As an athlete
Adrianna has been involved with track and field since she was in 7th grade. Throughout her career at Malcolm, she competed in the 100, 200, 4x100m relay, long jump, and triple jump. The triple jump was her best and favorite event and remains her favorite.
As a middle school athlete, she competed at the Nebraska Championship Meet, where she placed 6th in the 4x100m relay in 2013 and 2nd in the triple jump in 2014, setting junior high school records in the process. She is still the Malcolm junior high school record holder in the triple jump (34' 0.5"), and her school-record jump was ranked 10th in the nation for middle school in 2014.
In high school, she qualified for state all 4 years, earning a total of 11 medals which included gold in the Class C 4x100m relay in 2016 and a school record. She also competed internationally for Team USA with DownUnder Sports in 2017. She placed first in the triple jump and 4x100m relay for her age group and earned silver in the same 4x100m relay race. (Yes, I really did earn two medals for one race). She still holds the Malcolm high school record in the 4x100m relay (50.02).
In addition, she was a track and field team captain in 2018, was a 4-time letter winner in track and field, and earned NCPA Academic All-State for Girls’ Track and Field awards in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years.
In college, she competed as a triple jumper for Concordia University Nebraska, where she qualified for the 2019 NAIA Indoor Championships with a jump of 37' 0.25". She was part of Concordia's 1st and 3rd GPAC championships in their streak of now 11 consecutive GPAC championships (indoors and outdoors). Unfortunately, her career ended during the 2020-2021 indoor season due to an ankle injury she sustained her freshman year. She is currently 8th on Concordia's indoor all-time list with her jump of 37' 0.25"

As a coach
Adrianna is in her 6th year coaching and began her coaching career in 2019 at Malcolm as a volunteer assistant coach after redshirting her outdoor season. That year, she coached her former teammate Brooklyn to break the triple jump high school record that they both shared en route to qualifying for the state meet. At the state meet, Brooklyn placed 6th.
(We all know what happened with the 2020 season.)
In 2021, Adrianna immersed herself into coaching to continue being part of the sport after leaving Concordia's track team. She started attended coaching classes, and all the new information she learned sparked her desire to seriously pursue coaching. She went back to Malcolm as an assistant track and field coach, coaching the horizontal jumps, and helped all the athletes see tremendous improvement!
The most notable improvement was the senior Austin E. who started the season as the worst triple jumper on the boy's team (34' 10.75") and ended the season as the best (41' 8"), qualifying for the Class B state meet in the process; he was the first Class B state qualifier in Malcolm's history! Every jumper improved from the beginning to the end of that season.
In 2022, Adrianna continued coaching at Malcolm as a volunteer assistant coach, primarily coaching the jumps but also helping with the sprints. That season also saw tremendous improvement from the jumpers! The most notable improvement came from senior Luke W. who came into the season with a personal best of 18' 10.5" in the long jump and ended the season with a personal best of 20' 11.5", qualifying for the Class C state meet in the process. Junior triple jumper Alanea B. also qualified for that year's state meet.
In 2023, Adrianna served as the track and field head coach at Immanuel. She produced one of the largest teams in school history, improving the roster size from 8 the year before to 21, a 262.5% increase!
In 2024, she's continuing to study the sport while coaching herself to test different concepts and techniques.
