About Julia

My background

I grew up Unitarian Universalist which piqued my interest in interfaith dialogue, nature-based spirituality, and counter-cultural movements from an early age. This interest led me to complete a Religious Studies degree at Macalester College, where I studied world religions, spirituality, ethics, ritual, and the ways human beings seek meaning and belonging across traditions. After college, inspired by the class, "Pilgrimage and Personal Transformation", I took a 4 month solo pilgrimage back-packing on the Appalachian Trail. This experience solidified my next vocational steps: to nurture spirituality in communities, as the grounds for personal and collective wholeness. 

For over fourteen years, I served in ministry and nonprofit leadership roles focused on spiritual formation, community-building, justice, discernment, and pastoral care. I spent eleven years directing intergenerational ministry programs within Unitarian Universalist congregations, accompanying children, teens, parents, caregivers, and volunteers through seasons of growth, grief, transition, questioning, and transformation. During this time, I completed a 10 year credentialing as a Masters Religious Educator with the UU Association. Later, I directed an Episcopal service corps serving young adults from diverse spiritual and interfaith backgrounds, helping cultivate spaces for vocational discernment, contemplative practice, justice, and community life.

After many years of leadership and community-holding work, I felt called toward a more intimate and contemplative form of accompaniment, one rooted in presence, tenderness, authenticity, and attention to the inner life. This has taken shape in the form of Spiritual Direction. 

I received my two-year Spiritual Direction training through The Listening Place Spiritual Center in Durham, NC from 2016–2018. It is my joy and honor to offer spiritual direction as a space to help individuals reconnect with what is true, good, important, authentic-- with what is God.
