Vertebrate Paleobiology

University of Wyoming Geosciences

Julian Hernandez Diepenbrock

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Wyoming, under the advisement of Dr. Mark Clementz. I study the paleobiology of dinosaurs, with a specific research focus on the anatomy and biogeography of sauropods. Sauropod dinosaurs reached sizes unrivaled by any other land creature, and my research interests center on what adaptations allowed them to attain this size, how these animals interacted with their environment, and how they relate to each other.

Additionally, I have a particular focus on increasing the ethnic and racial diversity of paleontology and geosciences as a whole through outreach and example. As a person of color in this field, I feel that I have a particular ability to help reach this goal. Most recently, I was a panelist at the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology Annual Meeting's Ethnic and Racial Diversity seminar.
