Judy has been living and working in Silverton, Oregon as a sewing and design professional for two years. She relocated to the Pacific Northwest to watch her grandchildren grow and play with them daily. Judy loves and serves her family, neighbors, friends, community, BSF International, and her EBC church family. She has been blessed with excellent health and at 68 years old, has been called back to Kenya to live and serve with a Rafiki Team.
While in Kenya, Judy will be using her skills and knowledge to help lead and train teachers and widows. They will be implementing an integrated art curriculum that enriches the core education of the orphans in the village and offers the widows practical skills to develop their own craft trade to bring into the marketplace. You can learn more about these projects here.
In 2004, Judy embarked on a 5 year mission in Nigeria and then added another year in Kenya. Both of these missions where funded by friends and family through the Rafiki Foundation. Her work included vocational training, orphan and widow education, and curriculum development.
Judy started to feel a pull back to service in Africa in late 2016. She began producing hand-crafted items that could be sold locally to tell the story and fund programs through Rafiki. And then the call for service came in January 2017 when the current Dean of Arts had to cut her service early due to health complications.
Judy is in a unique and flexible situation that has afforded her the flexibility to respond to the call quickly. She lives in a multi-family home with her oldest daughter, son in-law, and two granddaughters. Her daughters and grandchildren have been completely supportive of her service-adventures and mission work in Africa. This time, because Judy has embraced simplicity, Judy will only need to raise the support for her basic living expenses and travel costs. You can help Judy on this next chapter in Kenya.
