Bio: Dr. Juan Du is currently an Assistant Professor with the Smart Manufacturing Thrust, Systems Hub, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), China. She is also affiliated with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong SAR, China, and Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute, Guangzhou, China. Her current research interests include industrial data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for modeling, monitoring, control, diagnosis, and optimization in smart manufacturing systems.
Dr. Du’s significant contributions to the field are evident in her impressive publication record, with 18 high-profile research papers featured in leading flagship journals such as ASME Transactions, Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering, IISE Transactions, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Technometrics, Journal of Quality Technology, and IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing. Among these works, 7 papers have won the best paper awards or finalists from prestigious organizations such as the IISE Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) Section, INFORMS Quality, Statistics and Reliability (QSR) Section, and INFORMS Data Mining Section. Moreover, her cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in smart manufacturing has earned her 8 grants as a PI or Co-PI, funded by national and provincial governments, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
As a dedicated advisor, she is actively working with 4 Ph.D. students, 1 Mphil student and 1 visiting student. Her students also get recognitions such as the IPO Best Research Award from HKUST (only 2 students get this award in Guangzhou Campus from all disciplines), 2023 IISE the Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) Data Analytics Competition Award Winner, and 2022 IISE Quality Control and Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Best Student Paper Award Finalist.

December 2023: Prof. Juan Du received the prestigious SME Susan Smyth Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Since 1980, the SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award has recognized manufacturing engineers, age 35 or younger, who have made exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the manufacturing industry.
