Masao Utiyama is a research manager of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan. His main research field is machine translation. He leads the development of "Minna No Jido Hon'yaku @ TexTra" (https://mt-auto-minhon-mlt.ucri.jgn-x.jp/)

Mike Dillinger, PhD, is manager of taxonomies and MT at LinkedIn. Before that, he was manager and computational linguist at eBay, an independent consultant for Fortune 500 companies, and director of linguistics at both Spoken Translation and Global Words. He has two MT-related patents.

A translation industry expert, Manuel is a double graduate in engineering and linguistics. He worked as a training engineer for Ford Motor Company’s tool suppliers, being heavily involved in engineer training for the engine plants in Valencia (Spain) and Chihuahua (Mexico). Manuel also worked for Rolls Royce Marine and Industrial at co-generation plants for Cepsa (Huelva, Spain) and Ushuaia (Argentina).

European Director for the B.I Corporation of Japan in the early 2000′s, he established Pangeanic in a friendly buy-out in 2005. Collaboration with Valencia’s Polytechnic research group and the Computer Science Institute led to the creation of the PangeaMT platform, becoming the first LSP in the world to implement open source Moses successfully in a comercial environment.

Manuel’s vision is to automate language processes and multilingual publication in as many channels as possible. He has a keen interest in web crawling, machine translation and making the web as multilingual as possible.

When not working and developing, Manuel spends time supporting NGO actions like the Malima Project, Translators Without Borders, medical research into rare diseases and sport events.

Dr Dimitar Shterionov is a head MT researcher at KantanMT.

Dr Shterionov has a Bachelor of Informatics (B.Sc. Informatics) degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2009) and a Masters (M.Sc.) in Artificial Intelligence from the KU Leuven, Belgium (2010). In September 2015, he successfully defends a PhD in Computer Science at KU Leuven Belgium. During his PhD research, Dr Shterionov has worked on design and development of Artificial Intelligence software for learning and reasoning with uncertain data.

Dimitar joined KantanMT to work on the development and innovation of the platform. Since April 2016 he leads KantanLabs – the research and development group committed to advancing language technology. Within KantanLabs, Shterionov and his team work on introducing innovative technology in the KantanMT platform such as efficient word reordering, improved alignment and Neural MT.

Currently, KantanLabs is focused on integrating Neural Machine Translation into the KantanMT platform. The research conducted by KantanLabs has led to the first industry-level, fully user-customisable, NMT solution.

Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1960. Earned a master’s degree in aerospace and engineering from the University of Tokyo. After several years working in the space development field switched his focus to localization and translation, running his own company from 1991 to 2002. After a few years off he returned to translating in 2005 and worked in-house at several companies before going freelance in April 2016.

Has a strong interest in the role translation professionals can play in guiding the spread of machine translation along with the transformative effects of MT on the industry. His company PostEdit.Tokyo provides consulting to translation firms looking to introduce MT. Since 2011 has served as the editor of the JTF Journal, the monthly magazine of the Japan Translation Federation.

Gen Sato has been in Localization from 1999. He started as a translator and then experienced various roles including a reviewer, a vendor manager, and a language team manager. In ten years, he had worked in various projects both for Japanese and foreign clients. He was also involved in special projects such as CAT tool training, post-editing, QA for European languages, software UI localization, and style guide creation.

In 2009, he joined SDL Japan as a sales reps of translation software. He was responsible in the Japanese LSP market. He also spent significant amount of time to write blogs and talk in seminars to explain features of SDL Trados Studio in details. He became a sales manager in 2016 and a sales director in 2017.

He is training internal resources and promoting SDL software trying to expand localization market in Japan. He is also proactively involved in Localization industry events to share his views toward its future.
