About us

The Association JSPS Alumni Argentina traces its origins to discussions among Argentine researchers visiting Japan in 2023. What began as an initiative led by former JSPS fellows at the time in Tokyo, Tsukuba, and Toyohashi, soon evolved into a collaborative effort to establish a national network connecting Argentine researchers who had benefited from JSPS programs. Their shared vision culminated in the Association's first official meeting in February 2024, attended by eight founding members. In the following months, the alumni network expanded rapidly through the creation of a national database and the incorporation of new members from diverse scientific disciplines, laying the foundations for the Association's establishment in March 2024 and its subsequent recognition by JSPS in June 2026 as the 22nd official JSPS Alumni Association.

Since its inception, the Association has worked to strengthen scientific, academic, and cultural links between Argentina and Japan. Regular alumni meetings, visits to the Embassy of Japan in Argentina, the publication of the newsletter Sakura, and the organization and support of scientific events have become central pillars of its activities. In 2025, the establishment of a Steering Committee further consolidated the Association's organizational structure, enabling the coordination of outreach initiatives, scientific exchange, and long-term collaboration among former JSPS fellows. Through these efforts, the Association continues to serve as a platform for promoting bilateral research cooperation and fostering an active community of scholars connected through their shared experience with JSPS.
