The death of a beloved family pet is a painfully sad experience. For children it is even more traumatic as they have a hard time understanding why it happened and how to deal with the loss of their companion.  The actual origin of the Rainbow Bridge story is uncertain. Some say it can be traced back to Norse legend, while others attribute it to more modern sources including a book written in the early 1900s, and poems from the 1970s through 1990s.  Regardless of its origin, the story of the Rainbow Bridge brings comfort to many who suffer the loss of a beloved non-human family member. With The Legend of the Rainbow Bridge children’s author J. P. Taylor retells the story in a new more child-friendly style and with vocabulary more accessible to younger children.  Though there is never an easy time to discuss the death of a pet, taking the time to share this book with your child in advance may help him or her deal with the loss.  Click here to buy.
