Painting 1 - Kehinde Wiley Portraits
Overview:
In this unit students learned acrylic painting and blending techniques and applied their knowledge to create a Kehinde Wiley inspired self portrait. Students first became familiar with working with acrylic paint by completing a blending values activity in their sketchbook. Students then practice matching skin tones in their sketchbooks, both a lighter skin tone and darker skin tone. Finally students applied this knowledge to create a final 18in by 24in painting. Students went through the process of stretching and gessoing their own canvas. They then projected and traced their portrait and patterns onto their canvas.
