Ceramics 1 - Lidded Jars

Overview:

In this unit students created coil pots with unconventional lids. Before starting their final piece students practiced rolling coils and photographed for their WIP journal. Students then completed a small four inch coil pot to practice connecting and smoothing also added to their journal. After completing a detailed and colored sketch of their final project students worked on creating unconventional lids for their jars. They used coils, pinch pot, slab, and other hand building techniques. Students were expected to have at least three decorative techniques on the lid and up to two on the body of the jar. 

*Glazing process was completed after student teaching completion
