Purpose
Shelby County is a unique place in Tennessee; with 6 synagogues, a JCC, and two Jewish schools, it is safe to say that the Jewish community here is thriving. While the Memphis Jewish Community already has so much, it nonetheless still lacks a unified teen perspective, one that supersedes religious and cultural differences. Memphis already has publications that span the religious spectrum such as The Hebrew Watchman and The Jewish Scene; however, these papers really only cater to the older generations, and most teens don't find them especially relevant or interesting. What Memphis needs now is a Jewish teen publication: a paper written by teens, published by teens, and able to be enjoyed by the entire Memphis Jewish Community. The Perspective, Memphis's new Jewish teenage literary journal, will include news, articles, stories, poems, and anything else that teenagers feel is important to include. Our hope is that this new publication will bridge the widening gap between Memphis teenage Jewry, and will eventually make our community stronger and more connected.
