How To Use

The Finnish Public Transport Archive aims to collect timetables and maps in many different formats, from many different websites, and collate them into one, easy-to-use format. The site is laid out in a fairly simple format. First, choose from the homepage or the navigation bar whether you wish to view timetables or maps. Then, click on the transport authority and mode of transport or area (if many are available). Next, click the drop-down section for the correct period of time. Finally, click on the route(s) you wish to view. All of our files are stored as shared PDFs in Google Drive, so they will open in a Google Drive window. Once you have viewed a file, close that window and return to this site.

Extra Stuff

Finally, here are some bonus files:

The HSL Pictogram PDF contains 184 pictograms created by or for HSL, plus 58 letters, arrows and numbers. Each pictogram has a small description in Finnish. Many of these are used across this site, like the one at the top of this page (106. Ohjekirja). Many more, including ones related to COVID-19, are available online.

The HSL Colours are available online or as a PDF. Hex, RGB and Pantone codes are included for all 16 colours, as well as paint colour codes for the Tikkurila Symphony range.

The Alternative HSL/VR Commuter Train Map is available as a JPG. It contains the recent extensions of the system to Kotka and Nokia and is slightly more geographically accurate than the older ones on our Maps page.

In addition, HSL published Viisi minuuttia seuraavaan lähtöön, a hefty volume describing in almost excruciating detail the history of public transport in the HSL region, along with old maps and diagrams. Unfortunately, save for a small trilingual summary at the end of the book, it is entirely in Finnish. Reserve it from a Helmet library here.
