Research theme: Willingness for foreign employment in Nepal: Do monetary and non-monetary benefits and costs matter?
My name is Shrestha Shiva, from Nepal. I am currently studying Economic Policy under the International Economic Development Program (IEDP) at Hiroshima University as a JDS-2020 scholar. Professionally, I am a Statistician at the Central Bureau of Statistics, Nepal.
My research, I examined how young students perceived the willingness for foreign employment by benefits and costs with employment tenure dimensions using a vignette experiment, which is more popular to identify human preference and social desirability in various fields in recent years. We conducted a survey experiment with 1,549 randomly selected students from community high schools in Kathmandu, and each student was interviewed in three rounds of random questionnaires. Our findings revealed that the non-monetary benefit information significantly encourages respondents' willingness for foreign employment more than monetary benefit. On the other hand, the information about non-monetary costs discourages their willingness significantly. However, the monetary cost is statistically insignificant. Furthermore, the length of employment tenure does not significantly impact the willingness for foreign employment.
Thank you.
