Dr. Schwab joined the Psychology Department at Bridgewater State University in 2016. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Clark University in Worcester, MA. His research focuses on the narrative construction of identity in adolescence and adulthood, using multiple methods (e.g., interviews, writing prompts, surveys) to explore how individuals create meaning and purpose in their lives through the stories they tell about morality, religion and spirituality, gender, race, adulthood, and life struggles. He takes a cultural approach to these phenomena by investigating how dominant discourses and master narratives are infused in the narrative construction of identity of individuals from various social backgrounds. He also writes about best practices in research methods, with particular attention to meta-theoretical and methodological issues in qualitative and mixed-method research.
