MY TARGET / LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this activity, a student teacher should be able to identify a classroom practice that applies the principle of learning.
MY PERFORMANCE (how I will be rated)
MY MAP
To realize my Learning Outcomes, I will work my way through these steps:
MY TOOLS
As I observe a class, I will use the Observation sheet as a guide during the observation then analyze and reflect my observation with the help of guide questions.
MY ANALYSIS
Describe what are the principles of teaching applies by the cooperating during the discussion.
Which learning principles is applied most?
One of the teachers promotes active learning, "Learning is the discovery of personal meaning and relevance of ideas," which is a student-centered method wherein the duty for learning is the exploration of concepts or sharing of ideas that based on the topic of the lecture. Instead of being a one-way knowledge source, she acts as a facilitator. Facts are presented via class discussion, cooperative learning, writing tasks, and instructional videos, rather than the traditional method of teaching. These concepts are being implemented by one of the teachers I observed. This could represent how her students respond to her teaching style and how much they appreciate her lesson.
Which learning principles applied least?
"Learning is an active process" is the learning principle that has been applied the least of all the principles. In this case, the teacher spent the majority of the time discussing and giving her ideas on the subject. Because there were only a few learners in the class, and some of them had an inconsistent internet access, the majority of the class was conducted by the educator herself. This is in contrast to a teacher who primarily assists students with their knowledge while they, the learners, are the ones who actively engage.
Do you agree with this principle of learning? Which principles of learning do you think needs to go deeper?
Active learning, in which learners solve problems, answer questions, create their own questions, discuss, explain, debate, or brainstorm during class, has consistently been shown to perform more effective to teaching approaches. "Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process," I think, is a principle of learning that needs to be explored more since it is responsible for learning that focused on the learner, frequently in cooperation with colleagues. They will learn a lot by speaking their mind. Knowledge and competencies are not developed in a single day for learners; they are developed in phases.
MY REFLECTION
My reflection based on the observation of Cooperating Teacher about most commonly use teaching principles.
Interestingly, teachers' usage of the word "active learning" has leaned heavily on indigenous comprehension rather than a standard definition. As a result, many educators argue that all learning is intrinsically active, and that students are similarly engaged while listening to formal meetings. Learners should do more than just listen; they should also read, write, discuss, and participate in problem-solving activities. Most importantly, in order to participate effectively, learners must perform higher-order thinking activities such as analysis, synthesis, and assessment. It is recommended that effective approach be characterized as educational activities that engage students in doing things and thinking about what they are doing.
Practices worth adopting “Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process." Learning is the process of educating learners something they don't know and having them understand what they did comprehend from the classes. One teacher has the ability to design the ideal class, one that is favourable to studying and provides excellent instruction because she is successful in putting these concepts into practice overall as she conducts her class. Learners will typically participate in small or large group work based on composition, speaking, solving problems, or reflection. Active learning can take on various aspects and can be used in any field.
"Treat the learners like empty vessels" is a poor practice to avoid. The purpose of learning is to provide the learners with what they needed and to educate them something that they would not have learned without the supervision of an educator outside of the school. We are now departing in a computer-based era, which means we are living in a technologically advanced environment; the teacher should not give the impression to the students that they are the only source of knowledge. Learners are sometimes even more advanced in their learning depending on the type of society we are now living in.
The lesson I learnt from my observations on the implementation of learning principles in order for a teacher to be effective, one of the very first things he or she must do is capture the learners' interest in terms of improving the learner-teacher relationship. Apart from that, instill in the students the belief that education is a must. Always encourage them to learn and continue their education, and never stop trying until they achieve their career aspirations.
MY PORTFOLIO
MY OWN PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING
Starting Principle
Learnings must incorporate a variety of instructional strategies that encourage learners to acquire higher-order critical thinking skills.
Guiding Principle
Learning entails instructing learners on topics that are relevant to their learning objectives.
Ending Principle
Learning entails interacting with one another and exchanging ideas.
Positive reinforcement used to urge learners to work hard and study more of it in order to achieve success in the future.
Student-Centered Principle
Thinking on, comprehending, and implementing the core of ideas and meanings in their life is what learning is all about.
Practical Principle
Learning is a continuous process that takes time and effort.
Learning entails experimenting and thinking beyond the box in able to educate learners’ concepts that are beyond our comprehension and that they will be able to apply in real-life circumstances.
