My Learning Overview
After a Learning Episode on Teaching-Learning Approach, the FS student gets acquainted with methods of teaching. A teaching method is the practical realization or application of an approach.
My Learning Outcomes
At the end of this Episode, I am able to:
Identify the teaching method used by my Resource Teachers
Distinguish between deductive(direct) and inductive(indirect) method of teaching
My Performance Criteria
I will be rated along the following:
1. Quality of my observations and documentations
2 Completeness and depth of my analysis
3. Depth and clarity of my classroom observation – based reflections,
4. Completeness, organization, clarity of my portfolio and
5. Time of submission of my portfolio.
My Map
I will observe two (2) different classes. I will reflect on the guide questions given below. To hit my target, I will follow these steps:
STEP 1.
Read the Learning Essentials given above.
STEP 2.
Observe at least three (3) classes with a learning partner. I will choose one class from each of the three groups.
My Learning Activities
I will observe classes by using Observation Sheet for greater focus then analyze my observations with the help of guide questions. I will write down my reflections on my observation sheet.
My Analysis / Insight
The teacher use the inductive process, not only her focus on the student-centered approach which is under inductive. She starts with the whole idea and breaks it into small subtopics and come with the specific idea which the students will understand. Learning by doing is the method where the students get more involved because of the excitement and exploring experiences they will get. They are enjoying learning through performing their lessons. The method which requires greater demand from the teacher is the demonstration, because in demonstration, the teacher will need to prepare visual aids, the icebreakers, and the steps of what she will teach and requires time, effort and money. There are instances that she used deductive rather than inductive because of limited time, well not prepared and the students sometimes are uncontrollable. Sometimes the teacher is in a hurry and short of time.
My Reflections
For me, the two are effective teaching method and I will also use them in my future career. Two very distinct and opposing instructional approaches are inductive and deductive. Both approaches can offer certain advantages, but the biggest difference is the role of the teacher. In a deductive classroom, the teacher conducts lessons by introducing and explaining concepts to students, and then expecting students to complete tasks to practice the concepts; this approach is very teacher-centered. Conversely, inductive instruction is a much more student-centered approach and makes use of a strategy known as ‘noticing’. As it shown above. Inductive is more like student-centered approach. I can say that it is more effective than deductive. Inductive makes use of student “noticing”. Instead of explaining a given concept and following this explanation with examples, the teacher presents students with many examples the concept is used. The intent is for students to “notice”, by way of the examples, how the concept works. With the concept of noticing method, I can say that it will really help the students to learn more and make them understand the lesson clearly because it’s them that think. Noticing is a process of students becoming aware of something in particular. It’s the student who are involved in unlocking the mystery of the lesson.
My Learning Portfolio
Give one example for each teaching method
– deductive and inductive.(e.g. demonstration method for deductive method; discovery method for inductive method. Inductive every windstorm in this area comes from the north. I can see a big cloud of dust caused by a windstorm in the distance; so, a new windstorm is coming from the north.
Deductive
-Homosexuality is an immoral act says in the bible; all acts that are unnatural and contradicts in the bible are immoral; Immoral are contradict in the bible and unnatural; Homosexuality is immoral.
Describe the specific steps of each example. Make use of graphic organizers.
