IT Specialist

Key Performance Indicators

  • Hardware infra (network, workstations, telephone) are always up and running.

  • Software tools are always up and running.

  • Downtimes are kept to a minimum. (Effective monitoring and fast response times)

  • Hardware and software infra are kept up to date; Keeps abreast of current/upcoming technologies

  • Complete, easy to understand status reports and asset inventory

  • Telephone (PBX, desk phones)

Brief

  • The IT Specialist is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of information technology products and equipment used in day-to-day office operations. The IT Specialist also evaluates and tests new software tools that the company decides to adopt into its daily routines.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and configures the following information technology products:

    • Microsoft Windows 7/8 and/or Linux

    • Wired/Wireless routers and switches

    • Microsoft Office and other productivity software

    • Email software and email accounts

    • Firewalls and anti-virus software

  • Maintains and troubleshoots the following:

    • Network connectivity

    • Access to email and application servers

  • Evaluates and tests new productivity software tools

  • Creates and maintains a knowledge base for how-to's and troubleshooting guides

Requirements

  • At least 1 year related work experience

  • BS degree in Computer Science or any related degree

  • Knowledgeable in installing Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems

  • Knowledgeable in setting-up and configuring local area or wide area networks

  • Knowledgeable in setting-up and configuring network equipment such as wired/wireless routers, and switches/hubs

  • Knowledgeable in setting-up, configuring and administering email servers

  • Knowledgeable in installing Microsoft Office and other productivity software

Preferred

  • Experience in installing, configuring & maintaining virtual machines

  • Experience in installing, configuring & maintaining HR & Finance software

IT Officer

  • Information technologists generally design, operate or maintain technology products.

  • IT specialists usually provide similar services related to software, hardware, databases, Web resources, networks and enterprise systems.

  • Duties of an information technology specialist include network management.

  • IT specialists may also provide technical support to a business or an organization's employees

  • Train non-technical workers on the business's information systems.

  • Advanced information technology specialists may design systems and assess the effectiveness of technology resources already in use or new systems that are being implemented.

  • Additionally, they will determine the practicality of changes and modification of systems.

  • IT specialists will also work with external partners, including consultants, agencies and vendors, to arrive at the most appropriate system or integration of multiple systems.

  • With information technology constantly changing, specialists must stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and the potential effectiveness of these advancements in their current system.
