Inspired by eruptions

Understanding volcanoes combinging field observations, remote sensing, laboratory investigation, and numerical tools.

About

I am a Chilean geologist born in Rancagua, 1993 (Chile). I obtained my PhD in Earth Science at the University of Manchester (United Kingdom) in 2023. I study the recent eruptive history of active volcanoes mostly in the Andes using tephra deposits, tephrostratigraphy, and detailed pyroclast analysis. My research is focused on physical volcanology, volcanic hazards, geological field mapping, igneous petrology & geochemistry, debris flows, and debris rock avalanches.

News:

Jorge Romero was recently awarded with Fondecyt Iniciación no. 11241126 titled "Controls on flank instability at southern Andes volcanoes constrained by field, laboratory, and numerical evidence: Applications to San José and Chillán volcanoes". The project will be carried out between 2024 and 2026.
