Biography & Experience
Joplin Lu is an accomplished performer, and owner of Dallas Asian Strings LLC, a skillful and experienced Violin and Viola teacher currently resident in McKinney, Texas.
She began playing the piano, and the violin at age 4. And at the age of 12, she entered the Asian Youth Symphony Orchestra as a violin player, and later played as principal violist of the Guangzhou Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2008, Joplin has performed in many major cities including Vienna, Amsterdam, Moscow, London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Taipei, HongKong, Macau, and Dubai. In 2006, Joplin began her study on viola performance under Prof. Donglei Hou at the Affiliated Middle School of Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou.
After graduating from high school, she continued her music studies in Sydney, Australia, under Professor Roger Benedict (senior teacher at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Principal violist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra). Joplin participated in over 200 concerts during her undergraduate study in Sydney as a soloist, orchestra, and chamber musician, she also worked as a violin and viola teacher at the Australian Violin Academy between 2009 and 2013.
Joplin moved to Texas in the Fall of 2013, she finished her master's degree in Music at the University of North Texas under Prof. Susan Dubois in 2015, and the same year, she was been awarded a full artistic scholarship to study Performance Diploma at the Southern Methodist University, under Dallas Symphony Orchestra former principal violist Ellen Rose. Joplin plays in many orchestras, such as Richardson Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony, Garland Symphony, Arlington Symphony, Sherman Symphony, and Monroe Symphony Orchestra.
She started the Dallas Asian Strings in 2015, the company gave more than 150 wedding/event performances each year, DAS has been recognized by many local event planning companies and venues as a preferred vendor, awarded couple's top choices of the year on Weddingwire every year since 2018, and has been invited to many major events and shows, such as the State Fair of Texas, Texas Business Hall of Fame, Married at First Sight.
In addition to performing music, Joplin also teaches at the Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra (Plano) as a string sectional coach, and as a highly recommended private lesson teacher at Frisco ISD and McKinney ISD.
