App design

A few notes about the design.

The app banner

The banner at the top of the app shows a graphical representation of the pediment of the Renaissance style Ark at Bevis Marks synagogue. Interestingly, as you can see clearly in the second photo below, the Ark is made of wood, although it has been cleverly painted to look like marble.

The third image shows a bone china plate I designed and produced some years ago to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the opening Bevis Marks Synagogue, today the oldest synagogue in continuous use in Europe.

The app thumbnail

The S&P Birkon icon that appears on your phone is adapted from the arms of the London S&P community. The arms can be seen on a magnificent silver tray on display at the Jewish Museum in London, one of a series that were presented annually by the community to the Lord Mayor of London as a token of appreciation of the City's support.

The version on the right is one I prepared based on two earlier versions of the community arms. It is the version currently in use by the community.
