Project #1

This project is from the class 60401 Leadership in Libraries and Information Centers and is titled EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Discussion.  PLO #1 “Apply the field’s foundational theories, principles, values, ethics and skills to everyday practice” is discussed here. The professional standard of the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association (ALA) listed under the heading Ethics addresses the general topic of this project and learning outcome.  This project addresses some of the values and ethics of the library profession by putting an emphasis on equity, diversity and inclusion in public libraries. It talks about how these values play a role in the work done at public libraries and is clearly a result of practicing an ethical framework as referred to here in PLO #1 and the standard listed here.

Project #2

This project is from the class 60609 Marketing the Library.  It is titled Infographic.  This is an example of an infographic which as a practice could be used in many different scenarios of the libraries, archives and museums field including public libraries.  In this instance an academic library was used but it could be easily adapted towards a public library.  The project deals with PLO #5 “Identify needs and connect individuals and communities with information that engages and empowers them.”  A link to a professional standard in this regard can be found at the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) where the standard is described as being related to discovery where “Libraries enable users to discover information in all formats through effective use of technology and organization of knowledge.” This project clearly does that by explaining the organized knowledge that is made available through its collection and services by way of an infographic.  


User Group Research.docx

Project #3

This project is from the class 60030 People in the Information Ecology and focuses in on the research of a user group in libraries.  It is titled User Group Research.  In this sense, it relates to PLO #2 “Critique and synthesize research and identify appropriate research methodologies to solve problems in the field.” It also lines up with the American Library Association's (ALA) standard and guideline listed under Planning describing planning as a focus for how to best serve the community and defining and addressing the needs of user groups.  In this instance the user group of artists was used but this is just an example.  Varying user groups could be focused in on particularly for a public library. 


Project #4


This project is from the class LIS 60040 Information Institutions and Professions.  The title for the assignment is Recommendation for the Mayor's Office.  This assignment, which was intended to be an assessment of whether or not an institution gets recommended for acknowledgement by the Mayor's Office, talks about how MCA Denver reaches out to new audiences and uses its collection to benefit the public.  In the Code of Ethics for Museums, it is stated in the first section that “Museums and those who work in and with them should: actively engage and work in partnership with existing audiences and reach out to new and diverse audiences.” This aligns with PLO #5 “Identify needs and connect individuals and communities with information that engages and empowers them.” It also aligns with PLO #1 “Apply the field’s foundational theories, principals, values, ethics, and skills to everyday practice.”

Project #5

This project is from class LIS 60612 Library Materials and Services for Adults.  The title of the assignment is Flyer.  It is a flyer for a specific segment of the community, namely seniors.  It relates to PLO #5 “Identify needs and connect individuals and communities with information that engages and empowers them.”  This project aligns with the American Library Association's (ALA) standard listed under the Reference and User Services Association and is described as Services to Older Adults.  This was created for educational purposes and is not a direct representation of the library used in the example.  It clearly exhibits through text and imagery how to connect seniors better with services provided by their local public library.

Project #6

This project is from LIS 60611 Government Information Sources and Services.  It is titled Searching with USPTO.  It relates to PLO #4 “Evaluate systems and technologies relevant to a particular information context.”  The projects from this class went deep into various databases and websites specifically in the context of government resources.  This project lines up with the standard from the American Library Association (ALA) listed under Reference and User Services Association and their Definitions of Reference in that it is directing people how to use technology and systems for a specific government resource online.  The project summarizes various searching instances and how they could be used by a patron who is searching.

Project #7

This project is from LIS 60401 Leadership in Libraries and Information Centers.  It is titled Journal: Good Leader Bad Leader- Communication.  It aligns with PLO #3 “Analyze and engage in the changing cultural, education, and social roles and responsibilities of librarians/information professional and the environments they work in within the global society.” This relates to the standard of American Library Association (ALA) listed under Public Libraries including Staffing for Results: A Guide to Working Smarter.  This paper talks about awareness of intergenerational communication and would be really relevant in the process of staffing.

Project #8

This project is from LIS 60401 Leadership in Libraries and Information Centers.  It is titled Journal: Choice of Article.  It aligns with PLO #1 “Apply the fields’ foundational theories, principles, values, ethics, and skills to everyday practice.”  This relates to the American Library Association's (ALA's) standard shared through the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association listed under the heading Ethics.  This paper talks about the power of emotional intelligence which as a concept can be situated within the context of ethics and ways of relating to people in benevolent and service-oriented ways.
