My name is Mike Jones and I am the owner and electrical consultant for my company "Jones Electrical Consultation, LLC." I, my wife Marilyn have lived on Fidalgo Island since 1990. Along with our three children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren we feel very fortunate to live and work in such a beautiful part of the world.
I worked for the Department of Labor and Industry as an electrical compliance officer from 1990 until April of 2018, when I retired. During part of that time I was the electrical inspector for all of the industrial facilities in Skagit and Whatcom counties. I also performed commercial, industrial and residential electrical inspections in Pierce County, Thurston County, Kitsap County, King County, Snohomish, Whatcom County, San Juan County, Island County and Skagit County.
I started in the electrical industry in 1968 as an electricians helper while still in high school, I also worked as an electricians helper in 1969 and 1970. After graduating from high school in 1970 I attended and graduated from Green River Community College with an AA degree in 1972.
I decided that I did not want to continue with college and began to focus on a career as an electrician. I worked for a couple of years as the head electrician in a mobile home factory and in 1974 I entered the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) apprenticeship program. In 1978 I graduated from the program and passed the state test for an 01 electrical certificate of competency. This certificate allowed me to work anywhere in the world as an electrician. From 1978 until 1990 I worked, as an electrician, mostly in Washington State. I also worked in southern California and Nevada. I have worked on practically every type of electrical construction job imaginable. I have worked on retail stores, restaurants, oil refineries, chemical plants, co-generation plants and just about any type of structure or business. I also worked at the nuclear power house at Satsop.
I stated as a temporary electrical inspector in the L&I Tacoma office in 1990. I was hired into a permanent position in the Mount Vernon L&I office in November of 1990. I retired from that position in April 2018.
It was hard to walk away from a job that I loved so much but the fact was my retirement programs dictated that it was time to move on. So right after I retired I started my company "Jones Electrical Consultations, LLC." I want to give back to this wonderful community that has been so important in my and my families lives.
Finding a good electrical contractor can often be difficult. When times are good they often cater to their regular customers, like general contractors, more than they will for smaller jobs. This is not always the case but when a homeowner can't find an electrical contractor or finds that they are more then what is affordable or would just like to do the work themselves, that is where I can help.
Hiring an electrical contractor is definitely worth the money. A properly installed electrical system is the most important thing for everyone's home. Many if not most home fires are often electrical in nature. Also every year people die needlessly because of electrocutions. These accidents can easily be avoided with an electrical system that has been properly installed. As part of my service I have a yearly fee for electrical contractors. Many of the local electrical contractors have signed up for this service. For homeowners as well as business owners my fees are based on your location and how big your job is. You can see a list and contact numbers for electrical contractors on my "contractors" page. However, if you want to do the work yourself I think that you will find my fees to be very reasonable.
If my service sounds like it might help you, please give me a call at (360) 202-1236. I will be happy to answer simple code questions without charge and I would be happy to discuss what your electrical project entails and how I may benefit you. Please note that my service is for consulting only and I will not be involved with any part of the actual installations. In addition any customers are relying on my expertise and experience with electrical installations I I will give the best advice that I can. However, I will not be held liable for any electrical installations that I have advised on.
