Students begin by developing a series of small artworks around a chosen theme, much like artists who create work in a series. They then move into the gallery space to analyze the themes, connections, and relationships between the works on display.
In the gallery, students are encouraged to pay attention to how they move through the space and to notice how curatorial choices shape a narrative or message. They become more aware of how artworks interact with one another, and how placing pieces side by side can create new meanings or conversations.
After this experience, students return to the studio, where they are randomly assigned a new theme, different from the one they explored in their own artwork. Their task is to reinterpret their pieces through this new lens and discover unexpected relationships or meanings that may not have been intended originally.
Once they have curated their reimagined show, students present their exhibition to their peers.
