MEd, BEd, BFA
A Canadian visual artist and educator based in Edmonton, Alberta. Working in painting, mixed-media collage, and transfer techniques, his practice explores memory, narrative, and cultural dialogue, often bridging traditional Western art methods with contemporary experimentation. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Education in Visual Arts, and has nearly two decades of experience teaching and mentoring young artists.
Jonathan approaches visual art as a language, combining technical skill with conceptual inquiry. His recent work, blending digital and physical collage with traditional painting, marks a breakthrough both technically and conceptually, forming the foundation of an ongoing series that invites viewers to layer personal experience into the work.
He has exhibited widely, including the AKA Artist run Center in Saskatoon, the Night of Artists Gallery and Gifts, and through public commissions such as Clareview LRT Station and The Louvre at Century Park. He also curates and installs large-scale exhibitions, notably the Fine Arts Gala at Archbishop MacDonald High School and the collaborative United Nurses of Alberta annual Gala.
Across studio and classroom, Jonathan emphasizes intentionality, exploration, and personal voice. His work reflects a commitment to the transformative power of art, fostering dialogue between artists, audiences, and the world around them.
We seek out opportunities to put student artwork into the world, as often as possible and in places where the wider community can experience it. This commitment has opened the door to wonderful partnerships and collaborations.
My teaching has grown and evolved over time, adapting in response to student feedback and interests.
