Senior Design Project (April 2020 - June 2020)
Worked with a team of five to develop a ventilator with 3D printing manufacturability to address the shortage of ventilators early in the COVID-19 pandemic
Determined appropriate gear ratio needed to adapt an AC motor sourced from a fan to compress a bag valve mask at the rate of recommended breaths per minute rate for an average American adult
Created a drivetrain in Solidworks to match identified appropriate gear ratio and minimize part sizes to account for average build space of 3D printers
Confirmed feasibility of design by observing mechanical performance of gears and shafts under quantified expected load through finite element analysis simulations in Solidworks
3D printed a physical prototype and tested its functionality to observe for improvements in future design iterations
