The layout for my Docker setup and containers will be with the open-source alternative to Portainer, Komodo. It will be deployed in an Ubuntu server VM within my Proxmox hypervisor. This is for future expansion where I can isolate my containers. This will keep my Proxmox clean and dedicated to VM, NAS, and networking management. And if I break Docker, other future nodes and infrastructure external to the server will keep running. The server will start off minimal and grow the further down this page you go.
Ubuntu 24.04.5.1 LTS - AMD64
Cores - 2 (4 total)
Storage - 42gb
RAM - 4gb (4096MiB)
I reviewed a video to setup and install the Ubuntu server. Started with a minimal instillaton. This will give me the ability to keep resource use minimal. Installed openssh in the setup to make easier down the line. Performed "sudo apt update" to update Ubuntu.
DHCP Reservation to Ubuntu server via ISP router's web
Successful Secure Shell demonstration via Windows 11 Command Terminal. Future implementation to include ZeroTier VPN container to Hypervisor to allow remote SSH capabilities.
I will be deploying my container applications through Docker. I originally intended on learning Portainer for this, although I do enjoy my open-source alternatives. So I will be using Komodo as my conainer management platform. To prepare for the installation and configuration of text files via the terminal I will be installing Nano.
Using a guide to install Nano on my server. The guide also provides common and useful commands to use Nano later.

First I perform "sudo apt remove $sudo apt remove $(dpkg --get-selections docker.io docker-compose docker-compose-v2 docker-doc docker-buildx podman-docker containerd runc | cut -f1)" to double check and remove any old or conflicting versions of docker.
Install Docker's apt repository for future update support.
Install latest Docker version: "sudo apt install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-buildx-plugin docker-compose-plugin"
Checked to make sure it's running after installation. Confirmed.
