Hello! I am Jolin Wong, a 2nd year Game Design and Development student in Temasek Polytechnic. I enjoy drawing and playing games in my free time!
I decided to pick up Guided Learning as I wanted to improve my game making skills beyond what was taught in my course. From my diploma, I've learnt the basics of Unity and created a simple 2d hack and slash game for my Game Development subject.
For Guided Learning, I decided to pick up a game idea I had all the way back when I was in secondary school, recreating the childhood game "Zha". I wanted to learn how to make a simple local multiplayer game along with creating a simple CPU for the player to play against if they choose to play in singleplayer.
Guided Learning is a subject in which students are introduced to the concept and process of self-directed learning in their chosen area of study.
Students use the PPMR method which compose of four stages:
Plan
Planning their own individual learning project
Perform
Execution of the plan made in the plan stage
Monitor
Monitoring of the assigned tasks and to close any research gaps
Reflect
Reflect on their learning progress and create a n e-portfolio showcasing their learning
For Guided Learning, I've decided to try and recreate the childhood game "Zha" virtually using Unity game engine and C#.
My Learning Goals are:
Learn how to create a local multiplayer game on Unity
Learn how to make a simple CPU bot
Learn how to make an interactive turn-based game
The attributes that I will cultivate during this project are:
Self-Directed
Problem solving
Competent
