In 2010, I bought a one-way ticket to Bristol Bay, Alaska. I had heard about a sustainable salmon fishery that has been around for hundreds of years. Even though I had a rough first season, I keep going back.Â
Since 2011, I have been working on the same boat, Knuckles II. Bristol Bay is a derby fishery meaning it is fast paced. Communication is essential when working on a small vessel, as dozen of things are going on at once. Over the seasons, Jake, the other deckhand and I have developed our system on the boat to make us the most efficient. Damon, the skipper, keeps asking for us to return each year.
