My name is John (Jack) Iacono and I am an aspiring Game Developer with a passion for coding. I am currently studying game design at Marist College and I plan to graduate in the spring of 2024. I primarily code in C# and Java, but I also have experience with Python, SQL, PHP, HTML and C++. I have been coding for a large portion of my life beginning with very basic applications like Scratch and have worked my way up to Unity, Unreal and other Engines.
Some of my hobbies outside coding are hiking, wood working, running, biking and cooking. I love to be in nature as much as I can and I love nothing more than to relax outside on a warm day in the early spring. I also enjoy video editing from time to time. I also enjoy learning foreign languages and learning about the culture of various countries. Languages outside of coding languages also interest me, namely Japanese and German, both of which I have studied and become conversational with.
From a young age I have always been interested in video games more than most of those around me. Video games allowed me to have an easy way to let of steam or to simply enjoy with friends. After some time I began to watch some videos on YouTube about custom Mario Bros Wii levels which were made by various members of the community, to say that I was entranced would be an understatement. I would begin to draw up custom level designs for all of the games which I played such as Mario Kart Wii and the aforementioned New Super Mario Bros Wii. This interest in the experience which could be created through games would skyrocket upon my entry to Highschool where I would begin to take several coding classes as well as connect with like minded individuals to share opinions with. I began to code with Java, then moved onto GML, then onto HTML, then PHP, Unity and so on. This sudden introduction of a creative outlet let my imagination skyrocket and I don't think that it will calm down any time soon.
As with many developers, I am a gamer at heart. From early childhood through current day I have been a gamer who enjoys a variety of games both physical and digital. Some of my fondest memories from throughout my years revolve around playing games with my friends after school or discussing games with those around me. I am definitely slated toward liking more action centered games such as shooters, platformers or rogue-likes, but I am not one to turn down a collectathon or a farming game. Some of my favorite games are: Black Ops II, Destiny 2, Mario Bros Wii, Sonic Rush Adventure, Enter the Gungeon and Banjo Kazooie.
Every time I boot up a game I am both enjoying the game itself, but also silently taking apart the mechanics which are present within the game to determine how a given system may work behind the scenes. This approach makes me even more appreciative of the work which has been put into these games as I can understand how difficult some things are to implement.
As a game designer I have one goal which I do not waver from, that being that I want to make games which instill in others the same joy which I felt when booting up my favorite games for the first time. No feeling is better than truly being able to relax and lose yourself within a game and I hope that I can one day be a part of some project which people of all ages can enjoy and bond over. The community which forms around good games is one of the best ways for like minded people to gather and become friends and I seek to create a game worthy of having a community such as that.
In addition to simply becoming a game designer in the professional sense, I also wish to learn as much as I can from others. Many people make the mistake of ignoring the latent skills which are possessed by those who are deemed "worse" than them, but I firmly believe that something can be learned from everyone regardless of their immediately apparent abilities. I believe that constant efforts toward bettering yourself in any aspect in life is the most important goal to have in the world today and I hope that I never stop receiving opportunities to learn and improve throughout my career.
I am always looking for someone to talk to about code or anything video game related. Below I have linked some of the means by which you can contact me or view my work. Please feel free to contact me on any of these at any time if you have any questions for me and I will answer them to the best of my abilities.
