NIST International School, Bangkok, Thailand

MYP Individuals & Society (World and Ancient History) / Language & Literature (English)

August 2021 - Present

  • Taught over 120 students in 6 different classes (3 sections each of English and History) in grades 6, 7, and 8.

  • Adapted quickly to challenging circumstances. With only remote (online), faculty orientation as a guide, successfully learned 4 brand new curriculums across two departments. Seamlessly shifted from offsite online teaching, to onsite online teaching, to hybrid, and finally to face-to-face learning.

  • In response to faculty departures, took over an advisory group of 22 students with ESL, special needs, and gifted designations. Delivered a social emotional curriculum during daily morning meetings and two full classes each ten day cycle.

  • In collaboration with English and History departments and Director of Learning, revamped “Unit Planners” to clearly articulate student learning outcomes and collect all teaching and resources in one uniform manner across both departments as a pilot for school-wide implementation.

  • Working with the MYP coordinator and fellow faculty, who were almost all new to the IB MYP program, revised, created, and delivered “Units of Inquiry” utilizing all facets of MYP IB best practice in curriculum design, assessment, and ATL skill development to prepare CIST International School’s for its unofficial consultant and official review of and subsequent successful authorization of their MYP program from International Baccalaureate Organization.

  • Revised, designed, and delivered Units of Inquiry and of all facets of MYP IB best practice to grades 8 to 11 throughout the pandemic teaching both in person and online via Google Meet.

  • Collaborated with International School Yangon to recruit schools from across Asia and develop curriculum for “Students Without Borders”, a digital cultural exchange to facilitate meaningful and creative interactions between students from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives to expand their love of learning and practice global citizenship.

  • Worked with school owner, Head of School, and MYP Coordinator to improve and develop innovative domestic/international programs and partnerships to expand internal and external professional development and student enrichment opportunities.

  • Taught three sections of 6th grade Individuals & Society (History) and one section each of 7th and 8th grade English.

  • In collaboration with with Ind & Soc (History) and Lang & Lit (English) departments reviewed and revised curriculum / assessment practices to increase student learning and best teach ATL skills (IB).

  • Participated in and contributed to a pilot of the “Formative Feedback Project” program which is a process to augment and replace the traditional end-of-semester teacher comments with formative feedback and student learning portfolios that more effectively detail learning progress throughout the year.

  • Responsible for revising and implementing curriculum program to best help grade 6 students transition from the PYP (primary) to the MYP (secondary) program in study skills, self management, and socio emotional learning.

  • Responsible for regular parent communications and developmental and pastoral care of the students for above classes and one advisory group.

  • Came together with department and school faculty to assist faculty, students, and families make the shift to synchronous and asynchronous online learning as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

  • Taught English, Pre-Algebra, and World History to a homeroom of 18 students from 2012 to 2015.

  • Led communication between administration, three A Form teachers, and parents of the students.

  • Represented A Form in curriculum and planning meetings.

  • Implemented a new English, Math, and History curriculum for A Form when the grade moved to departmentalization beginning with 2015-2016 school year.

  • Taught a six-week reading and study skills course for St. Albans Summer School to rising grades 6-9 students from around the Washington, DC area.

  • Coached A Form football (assistant coach), baseball (head coach) and freshman basketball (head coach).

Summer and University Educational Experience

Resident Faculty, St. Albans School of Public Service (SPS), Washington, DC (2005 – 2017)

Coordinate the residence life program and teach four-week residential public policy program for over forty rising high school seniors from around the United States and the world.

  • Facilitate discussions with rising twelfth grade students from diverse geographic, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds wide variety of case studies utilizing Socratic and Harkness methods. Case studies focus on domestic and foreign policy issues such as, but limited to; drone warfare, enhanced interrogation, climate change, and ethics in government.

  • Reside in the dorm and coordinate all aspects of the residence life program for the month-long experience to promote a pleasant and safe environment in the co-ed dorm.

  • Lead outings in support of the academic case studies, including meetings with members of the United States Congress and Senate; Justices of the United States Supreme Court; White House officials; Ambassadors and embassy staff; and various other government and non-government officials and agencies in the Washington, DC area.
