I don't even remember how i discovered this song, but i really like it. Now, i always though that this song might've come from a late recopilation of outtakes and inedit songs, but after looking the cover of this video which refers to an album called Menlove Ave, i searched it up and it turned out there is a record called Menlove Ave and was released after johns death. Which was weird, because i'd never heard of it before and always tought Milk And Honey was the only postume album on John discography. Why is this so obscure and there isnt a single song update in the official channel i wonder

For Raised In Captivity, John Wetton teamed up with Billy Sherwood who not only plays guitars and drums but alsoproduced the album and is credited as a co-writer on most of the songs. Now, I am a huge fan of Billy Sherwood and lovethe stuff he has been doing with Circa and as a solo artist, but on this occasion Sherwood really should have told Wettonthat they needed to go back to the drawing board because most of these songs are just not up for it. That the playing andproduction is top notch does not help much when the material is not strong enough. And adding guest appearances byan impressive gang from some of Wetton's past bands including King Crimson's Robert Fripp, UK's Eddie Jobson, Asia'sGeoff Downes, and Uriah Heep's Mick Box, as well as contributions from Steve Hackett, Tony Kaye, and Steve Morse doesnot help much either.The songs feel like run of the mill and the lyrics are often banal and trite. The best songs are folky ballads like GoodbyeElsinore and the acoustic Steffi's Ring. When they try to create Rock 'n' Roll on the other hand the results are justembarrassing. And I suppose there is no need to mention that there is nothing progressive about this record.Raised In Captivity was to be Wetton's final solo album and in the context of his discography it ranks as one of his worstsolo albums and a sad end to a great career. social review comments | Review Permalink

The broad strokes of those generalizations remain true, of course. Upon closer inspection, however, there are a few clunkers from his glory days and a few gems from his comparatively recent output. Elton John's discography is actually full of albums that are ripe for rediscovery. e24fc04721
