THE FIFTEENTH!

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Originally known as "Dragon Ball New Project" until the current title be revealed on June 10, 2014, "Xenoverse" is the fifteenth Dragon Ball game coming from the Dimps Studio, the ones who released Dragon Ball Z: Budokai to PS2. The "XV" marks this title (and also the official abbreviation of Xenoverse) that also was opportunely released in the year 2015.

The Greek word "Xenoverse" means "Unexplored Territory" and that's exactly what this Dragon Ball has the best: Things unheard of in the series of games and exploration "in the bucket".

WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT "UNEXPLORED" THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN TO: NAPPA BECOMING OOZARU HE COMES TO THE EARTH! THERE ARE MORE GREAT THINGS WAITING FOR YOU HERE!

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

THE TIME ROOM IS NOW THE CITY OF TIME:

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

One of the coolest (if not the ULTIMATE coolest) things about Xenoverse is walking around the Toki-Toki City ("Toki-Toki" is the name of the pet bird of the Supreme Kaioh of Time for which Trunks works on this game). Even with only 4 exploration blocks, the fights of the parallel realities will keep you entertained for a long time.

The famous side quests here are fights that could be online with the help of friends in a team or off-line in solo run with a team of NPC's. On this missions You'll acquire special items, pieces of clothing, secret fighting techniques and other things to Help in the evolution of your character created in the game. You can also use an altar, at the Time Square, to evoke Shen Long when you have 7 Dragon Balls.

These Dragon Balls You can find, for example, in fights of the final arc of the Frieza Saga fighting with other NPC's Patrollers. What can you wish? It's goin' from Reset the Skill Points and apply them again to, change your character's race, unlock powerful characters for Versus Mode, earn Half a Million Zenni and more moves!

Speaking of wishes... Let's talk about one of the features most wanted by fans of any anime in a game that represents them: The creation of a character totally yours with the plus of this feature be totally relevant to the plot and interacts with all the main cast of your Favorite saga!

SEE THE CHARACTER "SHAULA" AMONG THE TAINO TEAM NPC'S? IT WAS CREATED BY SOMEONE! NO BANDAI GAME HAS THIS FEATURE (EVEN NARUTO ...). JUST BY SEEING THIS, MAN, COME ON: IT IS ABSURDLY COOL DONT'YA AGREE WITH IT?

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

MY FACE DOES NOT ANIME MY LIFE AT GAME!

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Dragon Ball Xenoverse allows you to join the DBZ universe, with your own avatar, no, no: Character! Right? You HAVE TO create one at the beginning of the game and this is the criteria to start to play. The whole storyline are based around YOUR creation, who's summoned by Trunks in a wish for Shenlong to bring a warrior of unmatched power to assist him in the battle against the forces that are Changing the timeline of Dragon Ball.

Your character can evolve during the journey, just like a RPG: Acquiring new powers, abilities, clothes that change your look, stats and arts. You choose between 4 different races to create your character, being: Human, Namek, Saiyan, Frieza & Majin.

To consider the type of a character you want to play, the race in this case, can have a big impact on your style of gameplay and statistics. Each race has special characteristics: Earthlings have balanced statistics for both offense and defense and Ki recharges automatically. Still: They have a increased attack power while ki is at its maximum.

TO Consider your character IS SOMETHING more than colors and a cool look! it's kind of your strategy and "yourSELF" in the game. Obviously the REAL FUN is to let your imagination flow!

Nameks have a low attack, but they are in high health and Stamina recharges quickly. Items are also more effective with the Nameks (a life regain capsule will make you gain even more health than the normal!) and life will regenerate automatically when near death. We still have The Frieza's race, the one of the "fast speed" (they are the most fastest characters!), but low attack power. Frieza's race can paralyze enemies with Ki explosions and their speed increases when life is in the "danger zone".

The Saiyans... Oh man, the Sayajins... We know that You always wanted to be one! Well, they are a warrior tribe with low life, buuuut attack power very high! The attack power also increases as life comes to a "near death" and all stats goes up if revitalized during battle in this state! Very OP's huh?

Finally the Majin demons: High defense, but slow stamina recovery. While stamina is at its maximum they gain a defense bonus, they are the most resistant and annoying to bring down in the whole game! Statistics differ by sex: Males are more powerful in attack, but slow and females are little bit faster but weaker in physical attacks.

In the end... After "creature created" the fun begins, but for sure You'll lose a lot of time in this part, YOU WILL! It's worth to say that the creation of a character is not limited only to the beginning of the game: It is something that will gradually getting richer as You advance as well.

Like this: Every time you fight, you win Zeni and Zeni is "La plata", "Diñero", "Bufunfa", "Grana" or "The Makes Me Laugh", you understand? It is the currency of Dragon Ball, both in the game and in the animated series. Whith Zeni we buy new equipment for the creations, but not only this... It is also needed to "craft" new items or specific items with materials that are collected during the fights. Really cool!

"Mr.Slug's Robes" is one of the most powerful items. If you can get the materials worth the craft! Other than that, spend Zenny on equipment: "PIMP Stylize" your character!

Some things will be merely cosmetic, just to change the look and such, but many pieces have an "plus effect" on your character like increase of attack, defense, Vigor and etc, as well as penalties with equal diminution of attributes characteristic of that piece of clothing or accessory.

Various arts can also be won through parallel missions. You can check before the fight to see what can be unlocked on a particular mission, and of course, these pieces are not always rewarded! Sometimes they require you to complete a mission in a specific way or use certain characters, others require a "Super Combo Finish" and so on.

And talking about Super Combo Finishers, let's chat a little about Super Attacks and Ultimates: Super attacks are the butter and bread of the Dragon Ball universe. Supers are moves like "Kamehameha", "Double Sunday" and "Kienzan". During the battle, you can make super attacks at any time, as long as you have enough Ki to make them.

"Super! Ka ... Me ... Ha ... Me ..." the rest You already know, right? This is an Ultimate Attack. you can Launch the normal version too. both could be "in your bucket", your imagination defines you!

Super attacks exists a lot in the game and guess what? Yes, you will spend hours "panning" for that specific super technique (if You only knew the work that gives to get Frieza's Death Ball... Humpf!) plus the one that best fits your character's style. We have bursts of energy, explosions, furious combos with sparkling blows, fast ninja strikes and so on.

There are two types of Super Attacks: "Wombo Combos", which are with physical blows only, and "Energetic Explosions", wich are those attacks of energy thrown from distance. Some of these often take time to load ("Final Flash!") or they can deliberately charged for greater power.

Oh yeah: We still have to say something about the Ultimate Attacks, the most powerful attacks available to you. They are like, say... The HSDM of The King Of Fighters' 2002 or the Ultimate Jutsus of Naruto Shipuuden Ultimate Ninja Storm series: You have two subtypes both offensive and elusive. Dragon Ball Warriors are not from Dragon Ball without their final attacks!

The "Double Sunday", despite the funny and "nonsense" name, is another powerful example of Ultimate Attack. Are you in for this ultimate technique? Yes, for sure!

Much like the Super Attacks, your Ultimate Attacks can come in different forms. Ultimates take a lot more Ki to be done, often requiring 300. They also use "dramatization scenes" and generally can not be canceled once they begin.

These "mini-scenes", to be fair, makes you be in a self-guarding moment while the attack is in preparation (in the scene), but this "auto-guard" may be interrupted depending on how many hits you get during your ultimate attack. Strategy is everything when using your most powerful technique, do not forget that!

Oh, yeah, almost forgot to say: There are too the "Evasive Ultimate Attacks". These ones are what you expect taking the name in consideration you know? These are special abilities to get you out of bad situations! Sometimes these are techniques for release great explosions or spikes of energy, teleportations or escaping skills with a distracting attack to leave the enemy "in the vacuum" opening his guard putting them ready for your counterattack!

Speaking of distraction, the music of the game is pretty good and "chewing gum" by easyly sticki in your head with songs that becomes trend from a hour to another without you eve notice. So, let's talk a little bit about this now.

Sing with me:

"...Cha-la head cha-la! No time to hesitate! Go on and search the earth, within it lies a magic surprise... Cha-la head cha-la! Be cool, don't be afraid, you've got the power to get you trough the darkest night..."

Let's just say that this game has one of the best soundtracks we've ever heard in Dragon Ball game in a long, long time! The music was maded with strong and grand arrangements, as if it were a natural reflection of the game storyline. Each individual sound seems to have been composed to serve its specific purpose instead of just "filling in the events" as those generic songs from the past fighting games from the 1990's or something.

There are some "sick" songs, in the sense of being great, as, for example, the theme of Toki-Toki City (dude ... it's in your head!) There's no way! The song is cute and at the same time well built for Please all ages, literally!), Goku Vs. Kid Buu is also very much like "Cell Games" and has "Super 17".

The music of the character creation screen, the same from character select too, is a good highlight due to fit perfectly those moments where, in the anime, the character is in a "family moment" with a funny vibe, like Vegeta in the Shopping with Bulma and Trunks in DB Super or when the Bingo were goin' on loose in "The Battle of Gods" OVA. This sound just defines your entry in Xenoverse and will sure captivate you a lot.

Anyway, ladies and gentlemen... The tone really goes to the remix of the classic opening song of Dragon Ball Z, "Cha-la Head Cha-la": The vocals are pretty crisp (superior quality than what we heard in "The Battle Of Z") and the upbeat arrangement with that wonderful guitar will make you sing the song soooo hard! Whether it's in Portuguese, Japanese or English and will drive your younger son into a frenzy jump jump self party! (experienced, i'm tellin' ya...)

The only real flaw of this song is the fact that we can only listen to it in the original Japanese language. A Portuguese, Spanish & English version would be good and it's a shame the game do not have a wider language selection! But... It's still a great song from the soundtrack.

GRAPHICS? "...I SEE IT COMING DOWN...":

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

For the lovers of the phrase "graphic is everything" / "this graphic is f*ck!n' good" you should know that this game carries the most powerful of the Silicon Studio engine, the excellent "YEBIS 3", and with this we have a game of high resolution for a Console (1920x1080) loaded with motion blur effects, Depth of Field, Glare and also excellent implements in "high-dynamic range" light.

This sounds like bull, if you are up to just enjoy the game playing it solely to have fun in and justifies the purchase (which is my case and congrats if this is yours too). But the graphic it's "the nectar of the gods" nowdays for great part of the actual players (no, not gamers, just players, cos' a gamer do not care about it). If you are one of these players... Then YOU WILL NOT BE WELL SERVED in which your accurate taste supports.

V.S.

Now the we're talking about the "sad" part of the game though it is needed to analyze... Xenoverse graphics are still out of the standards that all lovers of "high end graphics" want to see on the new generation consoles. Although the lighting effects of YEBIS 3 proved to be "full" we should say that during the introduction of each mission of the story, for example, unfortunately, if we launch that "sharp look" and properly perform a close inspection... We'll see that these are encoded movie files!

Did you thought it was a real time animation? Mistake! There's nothing in real time here. It's like the old times with PS2 movies with the 3D characters instead of CG as we saw back then with the Devil may Cry series and Resident Evil Outbreak: Instead of being processed on the hardware itself, for these segments, both consoles use very high quality video files that match the PC's appearance at its best configuration.

The downside to this is that THERE IS a noticeable LOSS of quality when switching back to the game (type like in Mortal Kombat X that you can barely distinguish between what's CG and what's the game itself . In DBXV has this "turn down").

YOU THINK: "WOW, EVERYTHING IN REAL TIME!" BUT NO, IT'S NOT! THE SCENES SHOWING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE STORY ARE ALL IN HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO SO, THEREFORE, YOU'LL DO NOT NOTE THIS!

Video effects aside... The visual design of the game itself fall short if taken seriously to represent the post PS3 / Xbox 360 generation. Thus: The details of the open world and the characters themselves are built with too basic geometry!

In the maps the texture we see, to the comparative effect, would comfortably fit in a Dragon Ball title to PS2. This is unfortunate (The King Of Fighters XIV are not alone!). To say: When you are fighting the game disguises it pretty well understands? This "low power vibe" of the consoles, to a certain extent, as the effects, are pretty well masked.

But the Semi-Open World MMO Style give us time enough to see the boundaries of the graphics and, sadly, make for them the bitter "flagrant". All players, avid for breathtaking visuals, will notice that the filter applied to the textures make it unnecessarily blurry with specific camera angles and some fast movements.

The worst of this "blurry speed issue" is that the whole game are not even at 60fps in the consoles: With such a simplistic visual setup all expectatives were that that the game could at least reach the speed of 60fps, even considering all little problems. However, the reality is that, both consoles, revolve around an eternal 30fps. Remembering: With Street Fighter 4 Dimps did extracted 60fps in its conversion to the new gen.

A SAMPLE OF THE FRAME RATE ISSUE "IN BATTLE" WITH RADITZ AND ITS "DOUBLE SUNDAY" (YES, RADITZ! I LIKE HIM, CAN I?): 30 FP/S IN BOTH THE CONSOLES. ONLY PC ROLLS THE DICE AT 60FP/S...

Even with these issues we have to say that the gameplay rarely drops below 30fps, though on Xbox One occasionally a frame drop is noticed around in the Semi-Open world of Toki-Toki causing some strange cuts at the top of the screen. The Microsoft platform also tends to render a set of half-deformed frames when we move from one area to another in the city, where the PS4 usually holds it normal.

In general, if you're eager for a fighting game with "ultra high-mega graphics", Dragonball Xenoverse will disappoint you and on both: PS4 and Xbox One. Although the two consoles have a visual parity, if you REALLY WANT better graphics at 60fps and higher lighting effects, so STAY WITH THE PC VERSION, obviously, if you have a good PC for games. Only in the PC version the result that was intended in the consoles is shown.

Now... If you are one of those who literally "makes the number 2 and wanders" to graphics, does not need it to be absurdly sensational or a Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade style where it has no difference between a CG and the game itself (practically! It is currently the absurdity of the graphics in a fighting game!), so... Xenoverse IS for You! Otherwise it is better you give up this game and try ro reach other places of your taste. It surely It is not the worst game when it comes to graphics, but unbearable for the "Crysis Engine Clanboys".

IF YOU ARE NOT LOOKING FOR "ULTRA TOP GRAPHICS", TYPE LIKE DISSIDIA, DEAD OR ALIVE 5 OR MKX, THEN YOU'LL HAVE FUN! NOW... IF YOUR FUN DEPENDS ON A "4K UHD" GRAPHIC... DO NOT PLAY XENOVERSE!

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

"...COME ON OUT, FULL-ON ZENKAI POWER!"

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Xenoverse is everything that a Dragon Ball fan, and anime fan, may want: The game allows the creation of a character relevant to the story and with his own saga, it brings a model of fight with a mix of beat em' up with fighting game being easy to play without the need of "be a Top Player" to feel at home and "able" to battle equally to anyone.

The graphic issue, at all, is the least. Honestly: If we REALLY going to lead graphics as the primordial thing as "only with superb graphics it will be a good game", then countless excellent games that gamers (the ones that really are gamers) and the expert critiques (the relevant ones) judges to be "masterpieces" are all "trash can".

It is important to note the following: The game's ability to keep its buyer entertained, wanting more and more to evolve in it, to learn, to understand and above all to feel satisfied in playing and being able to extract everything from the game itself are HUGE! Of course, if you DO NOT like this style of play and are more stuck with more "Street Fighter Like", do not buy or promote to test it, considering that your unchanging personal taste will not allow your Mind to absorb the XV fun properly.

IF YOU DO NOT LIKE ANIME GAMES with "SUPER GIANT beams DESTROYER OF PLANETS" VEGETA STYLE ...move away FROM DBXV! SERIOUSly: YOUR MIND HAS TO BE OPEN!

The tournament mode, too, it's "the thing" in terms of battle arenas. It definitely has a dynamic rhythm that requires good reflexes, proper strategy and a balance between combos and projectile wars to avoid be totally broomed online!

Dragon Ball Xenoverse ladies and gentlemen: Great demand for everyone who likes the genre and has an open mind for everything. Oh, and yes, add me online if you want a help on your quests: Ivo_Blackheart is my ID on PSN. As the song says: "...The time is now to wisen up..." so if you see one of my avatars, "Zheivom", "Majin Zhe" or "Zhemantris", add me in your Team in Toki-Toki city and let's do this!
