Bio

My interests span Network Science, Dynamical Systems, Machine Learning and Mathematical Biology. Throughout, I'm drawn to questions of fairness, design and surprise, in systems where the accumulated effects of small rules is profound.

I teach and research on the primarily undergraduate serving West Campus of Arizona State University in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. Find me on Google Scholar, or at My ASU isearch page.

I earned my Ph.D in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University in 2013, with adviser Eric Friedman and graduate committee members: Steven Strogatz, Jon Kleinberg, and Kevin Tang. I also earned a M.S. in computer science from Cornell in 2012. While studying at Cornell, I completed courses in Introduction to Wines, Culinary Arts, Riflery, Archery, Raquetball, Badminton and Entrepreneurship for Scientists and Engineers. In undergrad, I worked with Nathan Kutz at the University of Washington, graduating with a B.S. in mathematics in 2007 and earning the President's Medal for outstanding Freshman for the 2003-2004 year. Previously I was the 2003 Bellevue High School Valedictorian.

I live in Glendale Arizona with my wife, two daughters and dog Misty.
