Career Goal Narrative
My name is Joe Saltzman. I attend Leonardtown High School and currently attend the James Forrest Tech Center engineering program. I want to attend A college for 4 years majoring in a computer science program and minoring in a engineering program and hope to have a job as a programmer, roboticist or mechanical engineer for a large company after getting out of college.
I have taken several programming classes to help me in my goal of being a programmer such as programs using code.org, c and JavaScript. I have also taken a AP exam for programming and AP computer science principles. I have taken time to create projects of my own such as blackjack in many different forms and a (currently WIP) Pokémon battle simulator. I am currently taking classes at the college of southern Maryland to get more credits ahead of time and skip a year of college and get better prepared for college work.
I want to major in programming because my sister is a programmer and also because I have always loved to experiment with things and create whatever I can even though I never had the talents for art and my writing could be barely legible so being able to create whatever I wanted using a few lines of code and some ingenuity had attracted me to becoming a programmer.
I want to minor in engineering because of mostly the same reasons as I do for coding, that I can use some ingenuity and work in order to create something as well as using programming in engineering to help with my projects and bring more utility in those projects. I also want to minor in engineering because of the wide range of things you can do with engineering without requiring good hand eye coordination or quick reactions so long as you have a plan and stick with it.
