Joe Cipolla is a long-time Chicago Bulls fan. He has taken to blogging to share his passion with basketball fans everywhere.
For today's blog, Joe takes a look back at the golden era of the franchise, which is the '90s Bulls dynasty. The dynasty has two parts, two three-peats. Joe looks at two players who were instrumental in the team's success outside, of course, of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. He focuses on the two power forwards – Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman.
Horace Grant
Grant was the starting PF during the first Bulls three-peat. He was as tough and as athletic as they came and wouldn't mind bumping into the other tough PFs and centers of the league. He could rebound just as well as any PF or C and was a tenacious defender. His style of play greatly complemented MJ and Scottie, and without his presence in the paint, it would've been all too easy for opposing big men to dominate the Bulls inside.
Dennis Rodman
Joe Cipolla's choice for the greatest defender of all time, Dennis Rodman, also known as the Worm, could just about defend anybody, much like both MJ and Scottie. However, the difference is that Rodman didn't really care about anything else but defense – and that made him ultra-effective against the most powerful big men in the league, such as Shaq and Karl Malone. Joe Cipolla also notes that Rodman is the greatest rebounder in the history of the game.
