The Event
The 2026 edition brought together 23 teams, with a total of 92 students, from D. Sancho II Secondary School, in Elvas, the Campo Maior School Group, S. Lourenço Secondary School and Mouzinho da Silveira Secondary School, in Portalegre, as well as from several degree programmes at the School of Technology, Management and Design of IPP. The strong participation of schools and students from the region highlighted the growing interest among young people in areas such as data science, statistics, analytical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving.
During the competition, the students analysed water quality data from the district of Portalegre and water billing data, provided by the Municipal Water and Transport Services of Portalegre (SMAT). The use of real data enabled participants to develop proposals directly linked to local challenges, reinforcing the practical relevance of the event and fostering closer ties between school, science, and the community.
